Asus did a great job with the Zenfone series, it had been one of the best selling smartphones in India last year. We have been eagerly waiting for the Asus Zenfone 2nd generation for some time. Now, Asus has finally revealed it’s new phone in the Zenfone family, Asus Zenfone 2. Like the previous Zenfone series, the new phone doesn’t fail to impress!
Read on to find out why Zenfone 2 will be one of the top 10 smartphones that will be released in 2015!
Processor & RAM
You knew this is going to be huge! And yes it is, the Zenfone 2nd generation packs LTE-enabled 64-bit Intel Atom Z3580 processor, which can be clocked up to 2.33 Ghz. This processor is said to be more powerful than the Snapdragon 801 SoC (take a look), so we can expect a lot of fireworks at the asking price!
Asus Zenfone 2 comes in two variants – one with 2 GB RAM and the other with 4 GB RAM. This is the first phone that is housing a 4 GB RAM.
Design & Screen
Asus is known for great build quality for their Zenfone series smartphones. The new Zenfone series maintains this tradition and comes with great built quality.
The new Zenfone 2 looks a little bit like the LG G series flagships, obviously the back panel fitted volume control is taken directly from the LG G3. And the finish of the back panel is also similar to LG G3. The power button is now moved up to the top too.
The device comes with a 5.5 inch 1080p display, the front side of the phone is covered by 72% of screen. One of the main design fallback of the Zenfone 5 was that it had good amount of bezel around this, this is now solved in this device. The phone has minimum bezels on the side, making it to follow the current trend of bezel-less phones.
Camera & Battery
The in the new Zenfone 2 is 13 MP in primary and 5 MP in secondary. We have seen how well the camera in their Zenfone 5 performed, and from the first image samples, I can say it is pretty impressive.
It comes with 3000 mAh battery, with fast charging technology.
Zenfone 2 comes pre-loaded with Android Lollipop with Zen UI. This was one of the better OEM skin that I’ve seen. It is really much better than that of Samsung’s TouchWiz. Zen UI is very fast and slick, it also adds many little useful features to the Android. But one thing to note that is that Zen UI looks very similar to that of previous version, and has not been updated to Android’s new material design.

The base price of then Asus Zenfone 2 is announced to be $199, which translates approximately to Rs.12,700. That is for the 2 GB model, it will be higher for the 4 GB model. The launch price might be a bit higher, I’ll be updating it as soon as it is known.
