Karbonn Titanium Wind W4 Quick Review, Price and Specs

Microsoft announced partnership with many OEMs, particularly from the local Indian OEMs (Micromax, Xolo, Karbonn etc.). Micromax and Xolo have released their Windows Phone handsets earlier this year – Micromax Canvas Win and Xolo Win Q900s. Now, it’s the turn of the next major Indian OEM, Karbonn to show off their device. Karbonn has beat all others when it comes to the price that it has placed the new device, the Karbonn Titanium Wind W4. Let’s have a quick look at the Karbonn Titanium Wind W4 with it’s in depth review, specifications, features and comparison.

Karbonn Titanium Wind W4

Processor, Ram and Battery

Karbonn Titanium Wind W4 is powered by the 1.2Ghz Snapdragon 200 processor and is bringing in 512MB of RAM. The graphics department is handled by Adreno 302 GPU (Lumia 520 has Adreno 305 GPU, but the same is seen in Lumia 530). This brings us to the same configuration found in the Nokia Lumia 530. So the performance that we can expect would also be of similar Lumia 530, which is below the average and is plagued by many issues. This phone may also come with all those issues which are caused by the ultra low powerful processor (yes it is, don’t be fooled by the 1.2Ghz Quad-core tag line. It is not the same one as Snapdragon 400 it’s a Snapdragon 200 which is an ultra cheap and ultra low performance chipset from Qualcomm).

Camera and Storage

The back camera unit is 5MP, which comes with an average performance. Don’t expect wonders at this price point. Also, the phone is gifted with a Rear LED flash. Oh I forgot, there’s also a VGA front camera. The internal storage comes at 4GB with expandable memory upto 32GB.

Screen and Other features

Karbonn Titanium Wind W4 features a 4-inch 800×480 pixel resolution display. The display is pretty average, but is pretty good at the price. As usual, Gorilla Glass or Dragon Trail glass protection is non-existent.

The phone ships with the latest version of windows phone OS, which is the WP 8.1. The 8.1 update brought so many new features to the Windows phone such as the notification pull down feature to wall paper in tiles. All of the new WP is in the Karbonn Titanium Wind W4. The OS is pretty optimized to run good at this low configuration. But, we saw many hiccups on Lumia 530 with intensive games and video play back (Not even HD, btw). All hands crossed when coming to performance!

Price and Comparison

Karbonn Titanium Wind W4  is available from Amazon exclusively and is priced at Rs.5999 on Amazon. Other windows phone competition mainly comes with Lumia 530 and 520 only. Which are both available at around INR 6500. But, as the Xiaomi Redmi 1s is out there, it has become a tradition to compare every new phone with it. Well, there is no competition here, Redmi 1s wins comfortably (Also note the exact same price and judge!). Let’s not forget the Android One phones, which brings us pretty solid competition at this price range.
