gapps

If you’re here, you most probably know how important GApps are for a custom ROM installation. GApps make Android what it is, you can’t just deny that. GApps or Google Apps are a package of apps recommended by Google to be installed on each Android device. By default, the device manufacturers are liable to install the full lot of Google Apps, some of which can turn to bloatware. But when we’re installing a custom ROM, we get to choose which all GApps we need to install that’s by choosing the various GApps packages available out there. These GApps can be used with most of the custom ROMs such as, Cyanogenmod, Lineage, Paranoid Android, Resurrection Remix, Mokee, Carbon, Slim, etc.

Here in this post, you’ll find all the links to download GApps you’ll ever need! We’re going to list all the GApps packages such as, Pico, Nano, Mini, Micro, etc. You’ve to choose the appropriate GApps according to your device (Click here to know more).

But what makes it special is not that, it allows you to choose which all apps to be installed (it also can install Google Assistant) and also some other default apps such as launcher. All of these are done using a temporary Aroma UI, with which you can select all the options to be installed.

Which Apps package to choose?

It depends on the platform you’re using and the ROM you’re on. You must first

  • If you’re one of the few people using an x86 based device such as older Asus Zenfone, you must choose the x86 version of the GApps.
  • If you’re using an older phone, which was released last year or is using a budget phone, it can be using 32 bit architecture. If that’s the case, you must choose ARM GApps from the above list.
  • Now, for almost all the new mid and high end devices released this year and the last, it must be using 64 bit ARM processor. So you must choose ARM64 GApps from the above list.

There’s a app called Droid Hardware Info which will show the details of your device.

Steps:

  1. Install Droid Hardware Info app from Play Store.
  2. Launch the app.
  3. On the app, click on the “System” tab.
  4. Here, you can view about your architecture info under “Processor“.

Supported Android Versions

  • Android Lollipop 5.0
  • Android Lollipop 5.1
  • Android Marshmallow 6.0
  • Android Marshmallow 6.0.1
  • Android Nougat 7.0
  • Android Nougat 7.1

How to install GApps using TWRP

  3. Now once on TWRP, click on “install” and select the GApps zip file you transferred from the files listed.
  4. After selecting the zip, swipe on the “Swipe to confirm flash” option on the bottom of the screen. This will start the installation.
  5. Once it is installed, you can proceed to wipe Cache/Dalvik option that’ll be shown next. Swipe on the “Swipe to wipe” option on the bottom of the screen.
  6. Once the wipe is completed, click on the back button and select “Reboot System” button.
