Microsoft has released a new phone that sits right under the Lumia 535 and Lumia 530, and which aims to take position of the successful Lumia 520. Microsoft Lumia 532 is a budget range phone that will compete with the likes of Redmi 1s, Moto E, Android One phones, Lenovo A6000, and many more upcoming phones. The competition looks fierce, will this phone be able to withstand the competition and become a success like Lumia 520 was? We’ll find out, read on.
The phone follows the Lumia family design language in this phone too, with the colorful rectangular slab design it doesn’t fail to impress. But, it specifically follows the design of the newly released Microsoft phones such as Lumia 730 and 830. It has sharp corners (not the rounded corners of Lumia 535), and it looks great on this phone too. Lumia phones (Nokia, ahem!) are famous for their build quality and material quality, but their previous phones such as Lumia 530 and 535 didn’t impress anyone. The plastics used in this device is similar quality as that of Lumia 535 and they could have made it better.
Screen & Camera
Microsoft Lumia 532 comes with a 800×480 4-inch WVGA LCD screen, which translates to 233 ppi. The screen is not at all impressive and as it is a budget phone we can’t complain much about this. The colors look washed out and it doesn’t offer a wide viewing angle. It doesn’t have any kind of protection such as Corning Gorilla Glass or Asahi Dragon Trail glass.
It comes with a 5 MP primary camera and a VGA secondary camera. And this phone can record videos at 480p resolution.
Processor & Memory
Lumia 532 comes with Quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 SoC clocked at 1.2 Ghz. It is the same processor that is found in the Lumia 535 and 530. It is paired with 1 GB of RAM, which is pretty good at this price point. It can offer above average performance, enough for general purpose operations. But it would not be sufficient for gamers.
It comes with 8 GB of internal memory which is expandable up to 128 GB. Microsoft is also promising 30 GB of additional OneDrive cloud storage.
The Microsoft Lumia 532 ships with Windows Phone 8.1 OS, which comes with many improvements over the previous iteration of the OS. The OS has now become more functional and many new necessary additions were added to the OS, such as notification bar pull down, quick toggles, wallpaper on live tiles and many more. But the main problem that is plaguing the OS is not solved, that is the lack of quality apps in the Windows phone ecosystem. It is improving but it is not at the same level as that of Android or iOS. And recent rumors surrounding Windows phone that Microsoft might add the ability to run Android apps on Windows phone can be a viable solution for the lack of apps.
There have been recent reports that Microsoft have unofficially confirmed that this phone will be supporting Windows 10 OS, which means you can see this device getting updated to the next version of their OS and that the next version will be named Windows 10.
Battery & Other features
Lumia 532 comes with a 1560 mAh battery, which is more than necessary for a 4 inch phone with Snapdragon 200. It should last you for more than a day with average usage. And as Windows phone OS is not as power consuming as Android, I can say this phone will definitely offer more battery life than any other budget phone.
Microsoft has plans for single and dual SIM models, but they’ll be selling the dual SIM model in India.
Price in India
Microsoft Lumia 532 price in India would be around Rs.5800 or $93. This is a sweet spot in Indian smartphone market, there are more than enough smartphones in this price range and Lumia 532 will sweat a lot fighting them. The main competitors will be Xiaomi Redmi 1s, Moto E, Huawei Honor Holly, Asus Zenfone 4, Android One phones and the upcoming Lenovo A6000.

Microsoft Lumia 532 is a good phone for the price, but it is not better than any other phones available on the market now. It has got a lot of competitors and this phone will definitely struggle in the market to find a foot hold. You can get this phone if you are a Windows phone fan boy or if you’re in market for a great branded smartphone.
