The Top 5 Pros & Cons Of Asus Zenfone 2

Asus Zenfone 2 has been creating lots of buzz ever since it’s reveal at CES. It has been one of the most talked about device at CES. This is the first phone from Asus that could match other flagships of other OEMs. In this post, I’ll be covering about the pros and cons of Asus Zenfone 2! Read on.

Asus Zenfone 2 Pros and Cons

Pros

Price

Asus has priced the Zenfone 2 at a very great price. It is priced at $199,which seems to be the price of a budget phone, but it offers great features similar to flagship phones. Asus’s previous devices were also priced so well that they earned the spot of one of the best budget smartphones. Zenfone 2 is price in India is about Rs. 12700.

Camera

Asus Zenfone 2 comes with 13MP back camera and a 5MP front camera unit. We have seen how well the 8MP camera performed. The initial impressions didn’t fail to impress and all I can say is that, Asus is serious about camera business (read this in conjunction with the Asus Zenfone Zoom).

4GB RAM

Yeah, there’s that much RAM with a version of Zenfone 2. It is the first phone to come with 4GB RAM, and it will definitely be one of the cheapest to come with the same.

Zen UI

This is one of the better manufacturer skins I’ve seen in Android (the other being MIUI, which is I love and use currently). I can say Asus nailed it with its Zen UI, and leaves a lot for Samsung to copy to its Touchwiz. It has got many useful features and is pretty fast with all that skinning. With the Zenfone 2, the base have been changed to Android Lollipop 5.0, but it is still pretty much similar to the previous version of Zen UI.

Processor

Asus Zenfone 2 comes with 64-bit Intel Atom Z3560/Z3580, both of which is now proved very powerful, with these benchmark results that came earlier this day shows that the device performs very well with both the SoCs scoring 40k plus in Antutu benchmarks, which is similar to what Snapdragon 801 & 805 offers.

Cons

Back mounted volume buttons

Even though it is a nice design to have the volume buttons to be mounted on the back of the phone, it might not suit everybody and some people might just find it difficult to operate. And moreover, these are the problems we’ve seen on the LG G2 & G3, which Asus copied.

Battery life

This is still unconfirmed, but as this phone comes with Intel, I can say it might come with below average battery life. As Intel hasn’t been able to crack the battery life puzzle with its SoCs. Remember Zenfone 5 also came with the same issue. Even though this phone comes with 3000 mAh battery, it might not be enough considering it’s 1080p display and the power hungry Intel processor.

NOTE : I can see only these two cons now, as the phone is yet to be released and I can only comment on the rest of the cons (if any) after the release of the phone. I will update this post when the phone with the latest Advantages and Disadvantages of Asus Zenfone 2 as soon as it is released.

i’m planning to buy this phone soon.
    thank you

  • Hi,

I got my Zenfone 2 for 2 weeks. I found out there are many “Disadvantage” over the Nexus 5.

    (1) some of the games will not work on this phone. For example, Empires and Allies
    (2) A “TON” of Asus apps pre-installed
    (3) Almost all IPTV app don’t work at all. Some of them on have sound (Maybe PowerVR driver problem)
    (4) “SUPER” hot when play 2mins of game. (Maybe, the zenfone needs to compile ARM code to x86 code)
    (5) dual sim is great, if you are using third party dialer, it is not great at all.
    (6) some of the apps doesn’t work like “WEMO” to remote control home power switches. (Maybe, compiler problem)

Yes, for the battery, even it has a 3000mah battery, it will not get the longest time you expected. Think about it in this way.

You download and install BlueStacks onto your PC and use it to run Android Apps. You computer will run like crazy. Same thing happen in x86 based phone, it need to run a compiler to compile ARM to x86. Of course, it needs more CPU power, memory and battery. In x86 android phone or tablet, It might need 5000mah (=3000mah ARM based Android phone)

Overall, if you use it as a phone or camera, I think it is ok for most people. Think about it before your buy. I am consider to go back to my Nexus 5.
