Obi Falcon S451 with Swivel Camera – Quick Review

Obi mobiles is one of the ventures of Ex-CEO of apple, Sculley. He’s famous for firing Steve Jobs from Apple at that time. Obi mobiles haven’t made the impact they aimed for when they entered the Indian market. They are now bringing in three new models to the competition – Obi Crane S550, Obi Leopard S502 and Obi Falcon S451. The former two models are pretty average, comes with the usual budget formula (Quad core – 1 GB – 8MP – etc). But what makes Obi Falcon S451 unique is it’s Oppo N1 inspired swivel/rotating camera. Not really inspired, Obi Falcon S451 is a 4:3 copy of the N1. Now, we’ll just have a quick look with a detailed review on its special camera, specifications, features, price and more!

Processor, Ram and Battery

Obi Falcon S451 is powered by a 1.3 GHz Dual Core MediaTek MT6572 processor coupled with 1GB of RAM. The dual core processor at this price range is not a very good configuration that Obi choose, but they are generous enough to provide Falcon with 1GB of RAM.

1.7 GHz Octa Core MediaTek MT6592

Obi Falcon S451 comes with a 2200mAh battery. We’re looking at above average battery life, and this battery should give Obi Falcon S45 a very good battery life, considering it has a dual core processor.

Camera and Storage

This is where this phone shines! Yes, the main feature of the Obi Falcon S451 is its swivel/rotating camera like the Oppo N1 has. It has an 8MP shooter, which acts both as back camera and front camera at the same time. It can be rotated fully from the back to front, just like the Oppo N1. It does have similar unit of that found in the Oppo N1, but a smaller version (Oppo N1 mini maybe 😛 ). But, we’re not particularly sure about the durability of this clone compared to that of Oppo N1.

Screen and Other features

Obi Falcon S451 features a 4.5-inch 540×960 pixel resolution display. The display can be taken as an average one and considering it an IPS panel, it should provide good viewing angles and visibility on sunlight.

Unfortunately, this phone comes with Android Jelly Bean 4.2. This is a very big deal breaker, given the awesome camera and other features. Obi mobiles is silent about the future Kitkat update.

Coming back to the swivel camera and design, we already stated that this one is a clone of Oppo N1. But, a little investigation on this got us looking at the real one – T908 smartphone. Obi just rebranded this phone and named it Obi Falcon S451. (BTW, T908 is available from China for $99)

Price and Comparison

Obi Falcon S451 is priced at INR 7,999 and it will be available on online stores and retail stores soon. Talking about competition and comparison, Falcon S451 is up for a big storm. At this price point, the Indian smartphone market is becoming saturated and choosing the best is now pretty hard. Obi Falcon S451 will find it difficult to make a name for itself, just consider these competition – Xiaomi Redmi 1s, Moto e and the Android One cousins. You now got what I was talking about?

Conclusion

Overall, this phone provides awesome value only for Selfie lovers, but no one else. So, buy this one only if you are a person who likes taking selfie all the time!
