Android One is the Google’s next big project aiming to connect the next billion people online. The Android One trio boasts equivalent specs (in fact, components and front panel are the same, but different back cover) and yeah similar pricing. Read on for our review on the heavy weight of the trio, the Micromax Canvas A1!

Micromax Canvas A1

Processor, Ram and Battery

Micromax Canvas A1 is powered by a 1.3 GHz quad-core processor Mediatek processor coupled with Mali-400 GPU coupled with 1GB Ram, which is exactly the same as those seen on the other two Android one devices. By the way, the specs are very promising at this point of price.

700 MHz Mali 450 GPU
1.7 GHz Octa Core MediaTek MT6592
1.7 GHz Octa Core MediaTek MT6592

The battery unit on the Micromax Canvas A1 is 1700mAh. Meaning we’re looking at above average battery life, as stock Android should translate into better battery life and performance. It should last a day with moderate usage though.

Camera and Storage

The back camera unit is 5MP, which is good as we couldn’t expect a 13MP camera unit at this price point.  Also, the device comes with a 2MP front camera. Coming to storage, the Micromax Canvas A1 comes with 4GB of internal storage with expandable memory upto 32GB.

Screen and Other features

Micromax Canvas A1 features a 4.5-inch 854×480 pixel resolution display. The display is also average, but is very good at the price. And the display has no protection such as Gorilla Glass or Dragon Trail.

The phone comes with Android KitKat 4.4.4, this is where the Android One sparkles! Usually, the software update on budget Android devices (When is the last time you saw a software update notification on your Micromax/Karbonn/whatever brand other than the big ones?) . Google made the Android One project to cope with this fragmentation issue that is plaguing the budget Android market. With Android One, google aims at nexus-level software update pattern for Android one users (Yes, you’ll get the next version of Android – Android L at the same day of its release, even before Moto!).
